Residing there, it used to be
a park. But now, twenty-four
private homes have moved into
the once vacant lot, severed
by Hickory Street. What’s left
of the old trees remember
the new outlines in the grass.
Knowing, they watch the time pass.

This poem is a follow-up to a previous poem I wrote, entitled, “Vacancy”. “Occupancy” deals with how the same piece of property has changed. I highly recommend reading “Vacancy” first, then “Occupancy”. To read “Vacancy”, visit: https://thewriteaholic.com/2013/12/16/vacancy/.
