The Rose

Writing Like a Rose: with Beauty, Thorns, Addiction, Dedication & inspiration
Breaking Up With You

Sorry doesn’t cover how you’ve left my

heart in pieces now. I understand why

you had to leave, but your logic still leaves

me no reprieve. The tears still flood from my

eyes, as my heart thunderstorms with why. My

prayers soak the page, as I cry out to

Adonai and tell Him about the pain.

Friends console me, but I wish they truly

knew how I yearned for forever with you.

Now, you murdered the dream; it won’t come true.

While you’ve resolved this conflict in your heart,

you’ve ripped mine completely apart. Oh,

how deeply I have fallen in love with

you, that I let you go to work this through!

Dedicated to Christopher Stuart.

Note to readers: An edit was conducted on this poem on August 21, 2016 to meet the standards to the poem’s rhythm and rhyme scheme. Sometimes, it’s possible to have the correct amount of syllables and break the rhyme scheme while you’re trying to meet the needs of the form. This is a perfect example. Thus, the following changes have been made to meet the needs of the rhyme scheme:

The original edit reads:

“Friends console me, but I wish they knew how

much I wanted to spend forever with

you. Now, you killed the dream; it won’t come true.”

It has been changed to:

“Friends console me, but I wish they truly

knew how I yearned for forever with you.

Now, you murdered the dream; it won’t come true.”

Thank you so much for bearing with me as I strive to make my writing better.~
